PB Party Honorable Mention!

In February I entered author Mindy Alyse Weiss' PB Party Contest. for the second year in a row. The first year, I found out about it at the last minute and in all honesty, I am sure I submitted a manuscript that wasn't ready to go. This year, I felt more prepared. I submitted a story I'd written about a fun little fish who loves food!

I uploaded my story and the wait began.

The premise is that you submit a query letter and the first 60-70 words of your manuscript. Judges will read these and score them. Once scored, the judges rank the pieces and select their top 50 choices. The winners will be posted on Mindy's website for a tremendous amount of agents and editors to read through them and request to see more of an author's work.

It's a contest that has grown exponentially over the years and has resulted in many unagented writers finding a path to their agent and publishing goals. It's a real boost for any writer's journey!

It took a month for Mindy and the crew of judges who so wonderfully volunteered to read through the almost 1,100 entrants and select their top 50 (this year I believe it was 54) authors. They have a contest for author/illustrators as well.

One the day the winners were to be announced, I couldn't sleep. It felt like Christmas Eve. I tossed and turned and tried to temper my expectations.

I'm not sure when Mindy ever sleeps, but the results were posted in the wee hours of the morning. I immediately scrolled the list and then scrolled again. I was so hopeful that my name would be there, but sadly, it wasn't.

I was dejected, but I knew it wasn't the end of the world. I was happy for those who had been selected.

Now, I pinned my hopes on receiving an Honorable Mention. So the waiting began again. Honorable Mentions aren't posted until after the Winner's Showcase which lasts approximately 2 weeks (give or take). Mindy graciously leaves the winners' posts up for as long as the agents need to ensure they have time to fully peruse the stories.

As the days ticked by, I realized I REALLY wanted to be named an Honorable Mention winner.

The morning the names were posted, I scrolled and scrolled through the tiny font to see my name and story title.

And lo and behold, there it was!

My story had been named one of the Honorable Mentions. I was so relieved and proud. I believe in myself as a writer, but it is hard to maintain the faith that I will someday find an agent and be a published author. Being named an HM gave me a confidence boost I needed.

If you are contemplating entering the contest for 2025, I highly encourage you to go for it! I know that I certainly plan to!
